Birmingham SLT have a team of specialist speech and language therapists who can help individuals who are presenting with speech, language, communication or swallowing difficulties which are of a variety of causes.
At Birmingham SLT, all of our speech and language therapists have competed all of the training to become a speech and language therapist.
Our speech and language therapists are members of the royal college of speech and language therapists, and also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Speech and language therapy at Birmingham SLT can be extremely beneficial to both adults and children. Birmingham SLT can benefit any individual who is experiencing difficulties with their speech, language, communication or swallowing. Evidence also suggests speech and language therapy is also highly beneficial to the parents, partners, family, friends and other professionals who are involved with the individual.
At Birmingham SLT the speech and language therapist will always discuss what will be involved with your speech and language therapy sessions. Speech and language therapy at Birmingham SLT will firstly involve an initial assessment, which will then be followed by a therapy programme.
During the initial assessment at Birmingham SLT the speech and language therapist will carry out a case history and an assessment. A case history will include the speech and language therapist asking the individual questions about their medical and social history. The case history will provide the individual with the opportunity to express their concerns about their speech, language, communication or swallowing. The speech and language therapist will then make an assessment of the individual's speech, language, communication or swallowing abilities .
Following the assessment the speech and language therapist will discuss with the individual the conclusions drawn from the initial assessment. The speech and language therapist will aim to provide the individual with a diagnosis of their speech, language, communication or swallowing difficulties. The speech and language therapist will also discuss the different treatment options that are available to the individual.
Birmingham SLT can provide therapy programmes for a wide variety of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders. Our team of specialist speech and language therapists can treat adults and children who have speech, language, communication or swallowing needs. Speech and language therapy may involve one to one therapy sessions or even carried out in a group with individuals with similar disabilities. The speech and language therapist may also carry out therapy programmes indirectly, including training family, other professionals or carers who surround the individual. The speech and language therapy programme that the speech and language therapist advices will be based upon the specific needs of the individual.
The length of the speech and language therapy appointment depends on the reasons for the session. Your first appointment at Birmingham SLT will take 1 hour 30 mins. Any other treatment session following your first visit will be for 1 hour.

Birmingham provides a speech and language therapy service where you will not be placed on a waiting list. The speech and language therapists are usually able to provide you with an appointment within 24-48 hours.
Yes. You can either cancel or re-arrange your appointment. We hold a 24 hour cancellation policy. This means that you need to inform us of your cancellation with at least 24 hours' notice. Failure to provide us with 24 hour's notice of a cancellation will result in being charged for your appointment, even if you do not attend. To cancel your appointment please contact us by calling 0121 663 0066.

Birmingham SLT requires an advance payment to be made for your initial assessment. You can pay for your initial assessment by coming into our clinic before your sessions is to take place. Following your initial assessment, further speech and language therapy appointments are payable by invoice at the end of each month. You can pay for your speech and language therapy sessions with cash, credit card or cheques.
